Generally Ok, definitely nothing to worry about, however it really depends what the test was.

Did they prick you finger and give you an instant, spot reading (ie Blood glucose level or mmol/L: Millimoles per litre ), or did they take a test tube of blood from a vein and send it off to the lab, which takes 24hours or so (ie HB A1c test)

For a spot test, it depend when you last eat, I think they generally like fasting bloods to be taken. 6.6 is a little on the high side for a well functioning body, but nothing to worry about.  For someone with diabetes and taking medication 6.6 is a good fasting or pre-meal reading.

An HBA1c test looks more long term and for people who donot have diabetes should aim for 6.5 or below, for those with diabetes below 7.5 with an  ideal of target of 7.0.

Either way, I wouldn't worry until you go over 10.0. But then, I'm not you GP.  If your at all concerned or dont understand, go see you GP or practise nurse.

There's a lot of stuff on the internet, most of which is at best, confusing, at worst, utterly wrong.

However http://www.diabetes.org.uk/ is run by  the British Diabetic Association and has some useful info.

http://www.diabetes.co.uk/ is also informative, but privately funded.

On the plus side of diabetes, you get free prescriptions and as much Viagra as you can swallow.  :)

Yes that is what i would have said, I joined Diabetes UK, a long time ago also went to a support group for a while extremely helpfull.  Your OK at present & they will soon put you right if needs be, so do not worry Jim OK. ;D.
Had a few blips myself but the practice nurse was brilliant.
