If anyone is interested in taking part in a 3 sisters (corn, bean and squash) plus Tom (tomato) seed swap please let me know.
After doing the Rainbow and squash swap last year was looking for a new theme and as all these are my fav's - well instant swap really.
General swap rules apply - and in recognition of all the wonderful swaps that Jeannine has run on here I think we need to make it a mystery tour with clues rather than a published list.
So anyone who is interested.....let me know.
I would hope to close the list by 31 January, so I can get the parcel out for the following Monday. :)
Suzanne,
yes please .... I would like to join in, just sent you a PM
Cheers
Mikey
Thanks Mikey - glad to have you on board.
I would love to join in too, please. :)
Do I pm you my address? Sorry, new to this.
oh cool an almost perfect swap, could i play please
lbb
hiya, cheerfulness, welcome to the site ;D
shame I can't take you up on this, suzanne, already got more varieties of seeds than room to grow them ;D
Yes, all okay to join the swap - just pm with your addresses.
Manics - I have the same problem, I can't resist Baker Creek seeds ::), hence the seed swap ;D
Tried to resist but failed! ;) Can I join too please? Thanks for organising.
I'd like to join in too.
Becky
No no no no no no.........yeah go on then, add me to the list please, let me know when you need details. ;D

I'll close the list this Friday and send the parcel round on Monday - guidance on the swop enclosed with the parcel.
Hi Suzanne
I would love to join this 3 sisters swap - what a good idea. My problem is that I tons of toms and squash but not lots of beans - so maybe I can increase my stash of beans. I have sent you a pm.
I have also just posted for a new seed swap as I want to get rid of all my seeds that are going to be expiring during this year - it seems such a waste and I would prefer it if someone else could have a go at them.
Anyway, looking forwrd to the swap. When do you think you can start it?
Jitterbug
Have you room for one more?
A quick check - do we count pumpkins in squash too?
Suzanne am I too late? have you room for one more? would love to join in will pm my address and keep fingers crossed :)
I hope we do count pumpkins in squash Becky. I'm desperate for some!
You've probably closed the list, but my internet connection has been down and this is the first time I've seen this, so is there any chance?
Hi - the snow stopped me getting to the Post office. I managed to skid into work and although its only about a 500 yard walk from work to the PO, it was blizzard conditions over lunch and somehow a warm PC and a cup of my pumpkin soup was preferable. Tomorrow is not much better given the forecast I may not make into the next village let alone work - so I think the earliest posting date likely to be weds if thats okay with everyone.
To all those that have asked to join - yes i'll add you to the list.
Squash includes pumpkins, winter squash, courgettes, cucumbers - basically anything in curcubita.
For Jitterbug i have put mainly climbing beans in the mix with a few dwarfs as well - although I don't think the dwarf's meet the 3 sisters concept :-\
Anyway as soon as I have posted I'll let you all know on this thread. ;D
Oh - I'll have to make up a clue as well..........thinking cap on 8)
Yes please :)
Okay the parcel has been posted and is on it's way to............
A4A member whose name includes that of a band who sang "you're gorgeous".
ohhh ohh is it littlebabybird?
It's like getting a pub quiz thrown in as a bonus. ;D
Cheerfulness you are very quick off the mark!
Wow, I still don't get it with the answer ;D ;D ;D

I'have tog go out today so i'll have a look when i get back, it'll cheer me back p
lbb
Just bringing this to the top before it falls off the page. ;D
Have you come home yet littlebabybird??
Hi LBB, have you posted the parcel on? Hope everything is ok. ;D
Ohh it's all gone a bit quiet, hasn't it?
I've even taken to reading the clues on other swaps I'm not involved in just to keep my hand in. ;D
hi every one, sorry i have been quiet.
the parcel reached its next destination on the 13th feb
lbb
I have emailed the next recipient on the list. But on checking their profile they haven't been on line for a few days.
Anyway if all has gone well the parcel should be with an individual fond of a dance popular in WWII, particularly when it came over here for the first time.
;D I know, I know ;D but I'll keep quiet this time. ;) :-X :-X
Okay guys, sorry - it was me that the parcel got to and I was away. :'( :'( But I got a lovely surpise when I got home on Saturday. I drooled all over the seeds :-[- did wipe it when I packed them back though ;D
But I was as good as gold this morning and its on its way again to someone who lives near a swimming poole! not east what but h... Sorry lame clue but I am sure that the recipient will know it.
Have fun and take a pinch of the lovely heirloom tomato seed - they were wonderful this last summer and are almost a heart shape when small and then bloom into these huge tomatoes. A bit of a mix between and beef and an italian tomato.
Thanks so much for organising this lovely swap - and I took out a bit of the "surprise" although not sure how to plant or what they taste like???
Jitterbug
yeah Jitterbug, so good to see you,
lbb
Cheerfulness must be off-line, hasn't posted with the answer to the clue yet :)
LOL
I was sitting on my hands in case I'd got it wrong and made someone all excited for nothing.
But I did think it might be flowerofshona. ;D Forgive me Dawn if I'm babbling nonsense. Geography not my strong point. ::)
Ahh... knew we could rely on you ;D Well done again.
;D ;D ;D
Yayyyyyyyyy it arrived this morning !!!!
Was a tad confussed at to which swap it was ;D
It will be back in the post tomorow as soon as i get the next address i will post a clue ;)
Apologies I have been working late and didn't log in last night to send on address, but have done so now.
The next on the list is a spot on seasonal veg just now, comes in lots of varieties but some of the more popular being Rudolph and Claret.
Cheerfulness over to you. ;D
Hmmmm nobody conveniently called broccoli. ::)
Will have to think about this. ???
Might need the help of the experts on here for this. :-\
is purple sprouting in this one?
lbb
thats the only name I could come up with too LBB but I've not seen her name mentioned on this thread. ???
Lay awake till the wee small hours trying to fit anagrams of broccoli with all the user names. Someone put me out of my misery. :-\
oooooooooh!!!!!! Is it me? ;D Is it me? :D
Suzanne, is there any chance of tagging along the end of this please, have been waiting for 2009 one and now its not coming :(.
Levi - I'll pass it on to you at the end of the swop. :)
Bumping to the top. It is Purplesprouting next on the list - hopefully it has arrived? :-\
Thanks Suzanne :)
Ooh - I've been looking through my seeds and working out what I will put in... and thinking about starting off some courgettes.

and thinking about starting off some courgettes.
I have been resisting doing just that all day today, please dont tempt me like this
lbb
Any chance of tagging me on the end of this one too??? Been having computer issues so haven't been able to log on for ages!!! Please please please??? lol. Have some interesting varieties to swap.
I wonder if Purple Sprouting has gone away for their birthday?
Exactly right Beckydore - my hubby took me to Istanbul for a suprise birthday/late anniversary treat. The parcel was waiting for me when I got back - many apologies for any delay. What a lovely choice. I'll send it on it's way tomorrow.
Regards
PS
The parcel will be on it's way tomorrow, to a rough talking 'galoot' astride a white topper. Well sort of!!
Sorry, not very good at clues.
PS
Hopalong??
;D
:D Cheerfulness you are on to these really quickly. :)
You just watch me struggle when its my turn to make up a clue! I wouldn't know where to begin. :-\
Away to peek at my little seedlings again for the ziliuth time today in case another little one has pushed its way up. ;D
Is this one still moving?
I hope so - I have emailed the next on the list, Hopalong, to see if he has received the parcel yet. It will need to speed up or else the "surprise" I put in the package will take root!

I LOVE surprises :D Can't wait now. ;D ;D
Hopalong says the postie has tried to deliver a package - is popping over to the PO tomorrow to get it. Hopefully it is the swap parcel............fingers crossed ;D

Collected the package this morning. A fabulous cornucopia of delights! The surprises are still in good shape. I'll post it on to Ceres later today. :) :)
Hi again - Is there any chance at all of tagging me onto the end of this swap? You would have my undying gratitude!!!
Postie left a card, just off to pick it up now. Guess what I'll be doing today!

That's slow. I posted it on 18th and they said it should arrive on 19th - or 20th at latest. Anyway, enjoy!
All packed up and off to the PO shortly. Winging its way to the city of dreaming spires.
Dropped it in the sack this morning.
Well I know where its going (I think) - Oxford, but just no idea who. ???
Anybody know?

Anemone
has it arrived in Oxford?
Sorry not been online for a few days so had a surprise when the package arrived! It was the one clue I had a chance of getting too :)
I sent it back on it's way this afternoon to a town whose motto is 'Urbs in Rure'
It's a fab swap - thanks for organising it Suzanne :D
Looks to be whizzing around now. Gald you liked it Anemone
Cheerfulness I think you are up ............another clue has been posted and I have set my stopwatch ;D
Woud it be Beckydore? ;)
Ooh oooh ohh. Yippeee. I actually sowed some toms and peppers on Friday. I was beginning to think the parcel might turn up too late to sow this year.
Will let you know when its here.
becky
Woo hooo - its here. In my excitement I opened it over my bed... and the duvet is now covered in seed / dust!!
Will take it downstairs and go through it properly later today.
My clue for the next person - he seems to beee very active.. and I am wondering if he lives close enough for me to drop off the parcel and look at his hives.
Becky
Hmmm I'm thinking Robert - because he's the only one of us that I know has a connection with bees.
I thought Solihull was in London. Shows what I know! ::)
Oh dear, now I'm thinking Mikey because I've realised Solihull is in Lincs. Totally confused. ???
Help someone?
For all I know, there may be several Solihulls. I know the one in Birmingham.
The Solihull I live in is in the West Midlands... just outside Birmingham! - not heard of another one... and yes it is going to Robert next.
Becky
oh.. and the surprise is now starting to shoot so I took the ones that have shooted the most!
According to Ekwall (concise Oxford Dictionary of English place names) there is only one Solihull in Warwickshire (West Mids now) and it means pigsty.. (sulag OHG) :-\
I'm getting informed every which way on this site. :)
You can see why I left the travel industry with my awful sense of geography. ;D
I grew up in Oxenford, so it's quite appropriate to meet up with someone from Pigsty!
It's now going in the post today as I need to spend time DISMANTLING MY NEW GREENHOUSE that I was offered yesterday! Which is a good job considering the number of varieties of tomatoes in this pack!
I'll be very glad to get them! It's not too late to plant a couple of extra tom varieties, and I still need sweet corn.
I'll be checking all the tom varieties on the net to see which fruit fast enough to have a chance outdoors, so if there really are that many it's likely to be a day or two before I can post them on.
The packet is now in the post. I do seem to remember some packets of tomatoes saying they were suitable for outdoors.
Becky
I think it's at the parcels office, but I'll find out on Monday.
I've got it; it should be in the post again tomorrow. The oca are getting low; there's enough for the next person, but probably not the person after that.
Still got a few of the small tubers left so happy to post on if need be.
Do oca grow and cook like potatoes? I've not seen those in the shops. ???
Wondering if we'll be having another clue or name given for the next swap recipient? We must be at least half way through now I think. ;D
You will be but there will be a slight delay. I had to wait for a doctor's appointment, so I was late sending my sicknote in, so my pay's delayed till next week. Apologies all round!

Yes they do - but smaller, keep better, resistant to blight and with a slightly nutty taste.

Goodness, they seem like the perfect alternative, don't they? :)
They sound good if you can wait till December. I'll try a few then and find out!

Bumping this to the top.
It's in the post; sorry about the delay. It's heading for the wilds east of Colonia Domitianum Lindensium.
Not sure where everyone lives but would this be Mickey this time? And if I've got it wrong again I'll promise to zip it in future! ;D

Cheerfulness ............ Gold Star
Parcel arrived at Noon today, unfortunately end of parcel wide open :(
Will have a good rummage this evening and try to get it on its way again Wednesday morning 22 April
Mikey
That tape normally works fine, so I wonder why it should have failed this time? I'll get something else for future parcels. Hopefully the contents hadn't all dropped out!
Hi Folks,
All packed up in a new padded bag, the parcel is on it's way again ....
friendly Village Postman took it in his 'Postman Pat' van at 12:30 hrs today.
It is heading for the Town of Liqourice Cakes ?
Postie says it should be there tomorrow (Thursday) as the destination sorting office is only 60 miles from ours.
Cheers Mikey
Oh my goodness - is it me? I can smell those being made most days as I don't live far from the sweet factory. ;D
It's here already! You are AMAZING Mikey! :-*
I believe I really might have scared my postie as I met him at the door and whipped it out his hand.
He clearly hadn't grasped the urgency of the matter and was faffing with bundling up my other letters - bills no doubt, as if I was interested in them!
Anyway, I shall look through it quickly today and add my bits and post on to the next person tomorrow hopefully.
Okay, its all packaged back up again and ready to go off first thing in the morning. :)
Its not travelling too far from me, to our 'royal' friend in South Yorkshire. (I know, my clue is pathetic but I did say I could guess not give :-[ )
I hope the person isn't away on holiday as they haven't been on for a few days. Here's holding my breath. :-X
Quick question - I took a few of the Gourds (small fruited mixture) and I'm not sure if they are edible or ornamental. Will the person(s) in the know please advise. ;)
My lovely dad has phoned and confirmed that he dropped the parcel off at PO first thing. ;D
Gourds are usually inedible and more for decoration as they are fairly bitter - some of the shapes though can be fun. I have seen some that have been made into birdhouses, or painted to look like snakes and swans.
I am sure that the person who put them in can advise further though.
Thanks Suzanne - my son is growing the bottle gourd ones (think they might be the birdhouse ones) and I know he can't eat those. :)
I didn't put the packet in, but I remember it, and I'm sure they're ornamental rather than edible.
I put the packet in but I can't remember if I put in the packet with the pic on the front or just some seeds from the packet - will go and check my seed box.
Gourds small fruited mixture
Sow in pots from April, do not plant out until they have 4 true leaves.
Direct sowing from May - 2 - 3cm deep.
To use fruits for decoration, keep on the plant as long as possible but harvest before the first frost.
Thanks Beckydore - really looking forward to trying those. ;D
The picture of them has different colours and shapes - some look like halloween pumpkins, others are gren, some green and oranfe striped or orange and white striped. some round, some bottle shaped.
Sound brilliant. My son is going to love those - he's 15 but has just really discovered the 'magic' of watching his seeds germinate... I was praying his french beans weren't duds but they've finally come good. PHEW!
Thanks again for the extra info. ;)
What a great surprise.........didn't realise I had even made the list. Parcel arrived in wet and wild Barnsley today. Will pass on asap.
Many thanks :D
Parcel posted off yesterday so keep watching for the postie!
Anybody's Oca showing through yet?
Re: 3 sisters seed, I've got some spare borlotti beans (about 10) and Waltham Butternut seeds (about 10) .... does anyone have any other climbing beans (kidney, pinto, yin-yang etc) or winter squash seeds they'd like to swap?... I wouldn't mind having some variety rather than a straigh tri-culture.... I#'m not looking to mix up my maize BTW......
chrisc
Chriscross - this seed swap is an envelope that is being posted from person to person. When it comes to you, you take out a few of what you want and put in some other items and post it on to the next person.
You are probably best putting your request on a separate thread.
Becky
I posted my sweetcorn and squash today. I've got them in the porch.
Is it too early to plant most beans?

Yes, that's what mine looks like.
Half of my oca has emerged. Its sitting in pots in a mini greenhouse until I can sort out somewhere to put it, and its gained a bit of strength.
I received the parcel today, so I'll be sorting it over the bank holiday and posting it on Tuesday..... ;)

Another bout of kidney stones I'm afraid! Thanks for you concern, glad to be at home again ;D
Glad that you are recovering, and I know how much better it is to be at home than somewhere else, especially hospital where everyone tries there absolute best but its just not the same. :)
OK, parcel is back in the post and on it's way south (not too far) to someone who has twin birds in their address....
2 weeks ago I planted my sweetcorn and squash from the parcel. I was worried they weren't doing anything but now the sweetcorn is about an inch high and the squash are starting to come through...and the oca is up.
Bean planting today!
Yipee! Parcel arrived this morning, I had a lovely time looking through....
Now posted, on its way back to the start!
Many thanks Suzanne and everyone else taking part
I just wanted to add my thanks to Suzanne for arranging this and everyone else involved in the swap.
I really enjoyed it and am so grateful I had the opportunity to try varieties I hadn't even heard of. So exciting!
Thanks everyone!
