Oh, my thoughts exactly...do you have your own field? ::) ;D ;D ::)
;D
It depends on how i grow them, but the beds are 1.5m wide x 4.8m length.
I would like to grow a couple of different types to see what we like.
Neil
we grew jack be little up frames last year :)
I grew my little pumpkins around the bases of my sweetcorn, it worked really well. I had a great crop from both. Some did *escape* the beds and grew on the path, but that didn't hinder my walk way, much ;)
I was thinking of doing the same lauren.
How high did they grow manicscousers and will you be doing it again?
Neil
the frames were only 4' high, at the back of the squash border, won't be doing them again, only because I find them a bit fiddly, the fruit are only 6" and it's a bit difficult to get the seeds out ;D
these are the jack be little, we also had some baby boo growing :)
I grew Crown Prince on a trellis last year - Butternut too. I netted the fruit before they got too large and tied the nets to the trellis. Worked very well.
Tricia
I like to grow them spead out as it keeps the weeds out and looks suitably "cultivated". But they are magic aren't they. ;D
My favourite out of all those is Avalon Butternut Squash. We planted in the bed after we had dug up the potatoes and each plant filled the beds and gave us loads of fruit. We dug up the first row of potatoes and planted the squash then as we dug up more the squash crept along and covered the bed. They are invasive and need keeping in order but well worth it we found.

A couple of years ago I grew butternuts around my sweetcorn and they suffered chronic powdery mildew. We had a really HOT July that year...... is that relevant??
Yes, mildew is worst when air is damp but roots are dry... :-\
We never tried growing regular courgettes up a support but did do it with the black forest courgettes http://www.thompson-morgan.com/seeds1/product/783/1.html
They got over 3 meters long and we trained them over a tall support so that the courgettes hung down from it. Lots of fun and a conversation piece at the allotments.
This picture was taken at the end of the season after we chopped it down.
