:'(
Sad but I really have enjoyed queueing with everyone else, and the scramble to get to the spuds.
However what was a really pleasant surprise was going to our local nursery on Sunday and finding they stock a whopping 40 varieties of seed potatoes. I got my preferred choices of Duke of York (red early), Charlotte (salad) and Picasso (main). A few more in terms of quantity of each type but will split them with Dad. :)
I'm going........but I have just bought some of the more readily available potatoes today locally, so not so much to brave the scrum for! ;D
Haven't been able to find any Picasso around Derby Deb... :-\
Hi SD. I was going to email you tonight. Our local Wyevale are having a potato week-end in Feb. Thanks for the offer. Glad you got sorted.
Janet
So are ours, but the range isn't very good IMHO :-\
No Ulsters and not even Picasso! :-X
I have been a few times before but last year was a bit disappointing. I bought a number of unusual varieties for the lotty but for one spud variety not a single plant came up and for another only a few plants. I have never had that problem in 15 years of growing them. Looking in the textbook it says this sort of thing indicates that there was disease in the seed potatoes to start with. I do wonder how good some of the smaller producers are at ensuring they sell disease-free stock.
Now you mention it my Anya were an almost total failure, which has never happened before... :-\
There is a reply to another thread mentioning Anya only being available in England...I wonder of there has been a problem with stock?
I also haven't seen any Picasso spuds on my travels in these parts.....
Sob Sob :'(

Anya is not grown in Scotland as it is controlled by a supermarket chain that restrict who can grow it.
I just got a tonne of picasso in at half 3 this afternoon so they are about but are hard to come by. :'(
Saddad:
If you can get to (or know anyone around) Nottingham Victoria Centre market, the stall upstairs in the market is selling Picasso. I bought some last Saturday. 1kg is 1.65p (I think it was?) or 3kg for £4.65.
I bought 3kg - 1kg each of Picasso, Maris Piper and Charlotte. That should keep me busy!
Cheers!
If necessary I'll come over myself, although we are getting 3kg for £3:50 here.
That's at the Breedon Hill Nursery NW Leicestershire...
:)
Yes - I'ts a bit more expensive, but for I don't have anywhere local that sells by the 1kg (or a lottie shop). I balanced it out with 3kg of arran pilot from Wilkos so my spud shopping is done.
They are now sitting in open baskets on top of OH's prized old model Fiat 500 in the garage. ;D He won't be pleased, but then, if he won't tidy the garage ..... >:( ;D
I'm still scrounging those cardboard fruit boxes, to put the egg cartons in then they go on top of the wardrobes. We do about 30kg.... ::)
I think if I did 30kg I'd about fill the house! And have no room for anything else at the plot! But I have only 1 plot - think you have a few more, don't you?!
Last year I did 7 and a half kg but I'm cutting down a bit this year to fit in more other things!
I think I'll get the arrans chitting in a couple of weeks. Last year I started too early and they were going a bit green and wrinkly when I put them in.
So, there'll be a rush for Picasso.
Last year, missed out on the Sarpo (gone within the hour). Have already bought Sarpo for this year, but want other spuds too.
