Title: Last Years Garlic Still In Ground
Post by: raisedbedted on January 12, 2009, 15:24:32
Hello everyone.

Somehow I had missed a row of Garlic at harvesting time last year and now they have re grown into quite fine looking plants with grass like tufts where preumable each clove has started growing.

Has anyone done this before and did they get satisfactory crops from them, or will they just bolt?

Thanks......

Don't know, but would think that they are now better used as 'green garlic'?

I could do but picture a 20' long row, about 8" wide swathe of greenery...

Is the ground desperately needed for other crops? If not leave them in and report back what the results are. I would imagine that you will get hundreds of small garlic or single bulbs but all will be edible.

Yes, I think you may be right and will prob try that especially as I havent gotten around to planting/ordering any for this year.

They'll certainly be well vernalised  :)

I've done this accidentally and used it as green garlic. I only plant the biggest cloves so I wouldn't want to use a whole bulb as planting garlic unless I was stuck.
