While shopping for compost this morning, I noticed two companies are now producing "vegetable compost", aimed at people growing veg in containers.I hadn't seen it before and assumed they were just jumping on a bandwagon, but apparently it was around last year- found this discussion through google:

The other company was one I hadn't heard of and it was in Wilko's.
I'm sure I saw some last year in either Homebase or Hilliers. It's not surprising, there is so much container gardening now. Some friends have a back garden slightly bigger than my patio and last year grew all sorts of stuff, including potatoes, broad beans, tomatoes, salad and two grape vines. They are justifiably proud of their efforts.
I wonder what's in it that's different from other container compost or multi-purpose?
Probably nothing. By giving it a purpose, for something that's gaining popularity, will boost sales.
