Title: Narcissi Paperwhites
Post by: Georgie on January 07, 2009, 13:43:59
I was given some Narcissus Paperwhites with a pot for Christmas and I am amazed at how quickly they have grown. I planted them indoors on 26 December and they are now about 12" tall with nine buds so far, the first just beginning to open. Is this a record?   ;D

Hmmm...25 views and no replies.  Either this is pathetic and no-one wants to hurt my feelings or it's so amazing you all think I'm making it up.  ;D

I don't know enough to know if it's good or not, but i am impressed that something could grow that quick. I was impressed with the speed of radishes until you come along ;D

I had some a few yes back, and yes they do grow quickly. Bulb to flower in 4 weeks i think.

I never found out because the scent ? (smell) forced me to put them outside.

I planted some in a pot before Christmas and they were quick to grow, but not as quick as yours George.  The scent is a bit overpowering but the family seem to like it. By contrast, hyacinths seem to be terribly slow this year.

Mine took ten days which I thought was very quick but bulbs are not my thing so not a clue ,guess I will be back soon to find out what to do next! The bulbs were from Woolworths  if that helps.

Oh I like the scent.  :) Not keen on the scent of Hyacinths as a rule though, I find them far too over-powering.

Wow, that's sooooo quick. I planted loads of daffs in November & December and the tallest spike so far is about an inch and a half. :(
But I won't be getting any paperwhite, thanks for the warning about the scent! I love fragrant flowers but they have to be quite subtle, and outdoors!
