Title: Child free weekend in Devon
Post by: Mrs Ava on August 30, 2004, 23:48:37
Had a great weekend down with family in Devon, and no kids!  Ava and I went down on the motorbike, setting off Friday morning, and wow was the traffic bad.  Great thing on the bike, it didn't hold us up too much.  Friday night stayed at Lynmouth in a stunning B&B.....(http://img64.exs.cx/img64/1091/me_lynmouth.jpg)

and then Saturday toured around the North Devon countryside, ending up at my Nans in Fremingtons, just between Bideford and Barnstaple.

The only problem with going down on the bike, there are so many lovely plants in my grandads garden which he would dig up for me.....but I can't transport them home.  Oh well, back again in October on 4 wheels so will be heavily laden with greenery!

And just for you Pixie, a visit to the west country for me wouldn't be complete without several visits to this man!  ;D (http://img64.exs.cx/img64/9179/mr_hockings.jpg)

Printed - that's a nice picture for my album!! But reminds me so much of the awful floods. That was when Dulverton was bashed - my parents' home. Our brakes failed on the hill out of Lynmouth, on our honeymoon, & I had to leap out & put a stone under the wheels!

Go a bit further to Bude - much of my formative upbringing & many relatives there. And Mrs Perrybolt & her 'fourpenny mixed' cornets! And Northcott Mouth - that was my grandparents' house. Now a café, I believe? = Tim

Glad you had a great time EJ. But how many hours were you on the bike for and how do you do it!!??

We went to Devon the weekend before the bank holiday and wimped out of taking the motorbike - Mr Moggle rekoned he would have had to lie down for an entire day after the 4 ish hour journey there.

Took the car and had a lovely time in South Devon, near Salcombe. I think with my stomach too - one of the highlights of the trip was the first cream tea - made from cream that came from the cows we saw in the field as we drove up  ;D ;D :P

Oh Pixie, how small is this world please!  That Chinese, the owners live next door to my nan and grandad!

Glad you like the pic Tim. We adore Lynmouth and it was suprisingly quiet considering it was bank holiday weekend!  Mark would like to live there, no good for me, try gardening on a cliff....rock gardening I guess.  Went down to Bude briefly on the Saturday, just cruising around.  Spent several teenage summers in Bude......somehow my mind goes blank when I try to think back that far......  :-\

And I was perched on the back of the bike for 6 hours on the way there and 5 on the way back!  Not constantly you understand, otherwise I would have been walking like John Wayne!  An hour and a half at a time is enough, then a 20 minute 'backside' rest, then on the road again.  I love being chief pillion and would travel that way all the time.

On the way home JETHRO/PETERH, 2 trikes pulled up into the services at Clackets Lane.  Huge and covered in chrome, and both lady drivers/riders! :o

6 hours!  :o I'm impressed
Mr M's SV650 isn't very pillion friendly, and perhaps I'm just a bit of a wimp too  :)
I still would have loved to give it a go though. Oh well, perhaps next time  :)
