5 out of 8 of us are ill with this,
15 y/o son is hungry he hasnt had a problem for the last 2 hours
do i feed him and what should he have?
they used to give us dry toast
lbb
I would say 2 hours with no problem is much too soon to start eating. Its a horrible bug and to be honest I would be tempted to just have water, go to bed very early and try something light like dry cracker and water in the morning.
Introduce dairy stuff gradually........I hope the rest of you keep well x
Such a horrible bug, hope you all feel better soon. When my children were young I was told nothing to eat for 12 hours AFTER d&v had stopped but plenty of liquids.
thank you star
your not kidding its horrible,
7 year old vomiting in the bath room was like something out of a bad horror movie
still at least 3 of us are ok, for the moment
lbb
ok tomorrow it is then, thank you as well Lorna
Do make sure they get plenty of water to drink so they don't get dehydrated.
Flat coca cola is the thing to drink. Pour some out and let it go flat. It provides fluid and things like sugar to give you some energy.
A nurse tutor told me this many years ago and it has always worked for us. If the coke stays down then move slowly on to dry toast or crackers.
PS Don't have orange squash as it is guaranteed to come back up!!
Hope you all feel better soon.
don't have milk for a couple if days, it comes back in lumps...I do hope your family recover quickly..some of our family were only sick a couple of times and some only had the diarrhoea for a couple of days :)
Whenever we get bad tummies we are always told to leave the milk out
my family all came back from euro disney with this thankfully it didnt affect their holiday.
i always recommend fluids then crackers then if all seems well mashed potato (no milk butter or cheese) usually works for me
For anyone like me who thinks Coke fizzy or flat is almost as disgusting a taste as the vomit it is helping with, the other recommended aid is half a teaspoon of salt to eight teaspons of sugar to a litre of water. Drink as much of this as you can keep down!
Most certainly NO dairy foods for at least 48hrs, boiled water, Dyralite!!! (spell )? opps,) is excellent after a spell of D & V.
See, I am a flat lemonade kinda girl when I am sick. That or orange barley water, not regular squash, has to be Robinsons.
Children are still dropping like flies in our neighbourhood - mine have all had the rotten cold with sore throats and dry cough but have so far avoided the vomitting bug, hope it stays that way.
In my early years (late teens) I had what was known then as Gastro Enteritis. When my Doctor came on a home visit (ah! those were the days) he asked what the problem was, I said "a bucket both ends" he said "I know what you mean".
Yes, when I was but a lass, gastric flu as tummy bugs used to be called , the treatment was Middlemiss's plain lemonade with sugar in to take the gas out. Once you kept that down you moved onto Rice Biscuits. Nasty bugs around just now.
:D
Nasty bug, people dropping like flies with it up here in Derby, I had to send two midwives home in the middle of the night shift on New Years Eve as they started with it ! It stopped the rest of us eating anything for the rest of the shift....!
