Title: Pig manure
Post by: RobinOfTheHood on December 29, 2008, 19:15:58
Just had a trailer full (somewhere between 5 and 10 tons at a guess) dumped on the garden.

Its pretty fresh, and steaming away like a good un. My question is what to do with it next - ie how long to leave it, whether to cover it or not etc.

I've previously only used cow manure, so I thought best to ask.  :)

cover it, waterproof, this will keep in all that ammonia (nitrogen) let it stabilise for 6 months / year, then use.

can you dig trenches for beans and pits for melons, squash and cucumbers, fill with the muck and cover, by the time the plants are going in, the muck should've rotted down, shouldn't it, we've done this with chicken muck  :)
