Title: The Faenol Festival
Post by: Mimi on August 29, 2004, 10:14:43
Just wanted to share my fantastic night with you.  As a gift for our wedding anniversary my youngest bought us tickets to see Jamie Cullen and Jools Holland at the Faeynol Festival.   8) ;D 8) What a fantastic night.  The Faeynol was hopping. This festival was started by a local celebrity Bryn Terfel(tenor) about 5 years ago and attracts some great musicians and entertainers.  Last year we saw Elaine Paige and Jose Cerreras and we thought they were good but sorry guys not a patch on last night.  We arrived at 5pm to get a good spec and set up for our picnic(everyone takes food and booze) Some very posh with proper tables candelabras and champagne ... the lot ::) The music doesnt start until 8 pm so we were entertained by some local acts in the meantime.  Jamie was great and played most of his tracks from latest album 'twenty something' (didnt realise that he was such a titch, must only be about 5ft high)  After him we were......... well to call it entertained  would be an understatment... more like blasted by Jools Holland and his band.WOW :o that guy rocks.  Guest singers included Ruby Turner and oooooooooo cant remember her name now but she had a song out called 'Valentine Blue' not so long ago.  The whole event came to the end with a fantastic (got to be the very best yet) firework display.  We fell home at around 1am.  Totally shattered, hands and feet still numb from clapping and boppin' but very happy. OOOOOOOO Cant wait for next year, but it will be hard to top this one. ;D

Wow Mimi - that sounds some night.  Can't say I care for Jamie Cullen, but then again haven't heard enough of him to judge really.  Jools on the other hand really rocks doesn't he.  He is such a talented pianist.  What a great way to celebrate your anni day.

Pat

PS By the way, Elaine Paige is one of our local girls.  Used to live above a greengrocers shop in Barnet High Street where I used to live.  One of the women who I used to go to school with was her music teacher when Elaine was a youngster.

Dont worry S4C usually show the films of all 3 nights later in the year.  So just keep an eye out for when it is on. At least you miss the foul weather but the atmosphere isnt the same.
