I have a problem when logging in on here, when I log in "forever" it should stay logged in when I return to the forum, but it doesn't. I have to log in again. There must be something wrong somewhere.

That was posted from my laptop, an Acer 5101 with AMD Turion (64 bit) processor and Unbuntu 8.10 OS.
This is being posted on my main computer, an Acer T120 with AMD Athlon (32 bit) and Ubuntu v8.04 OS. This stays logged in when I return.
It's queer.

No problems here on a Tosh laptop with Vista.
When I do a disc cleanup to release some space, I find I have to re- log on to all my favorites. Otherwise I stay logged on.
Have you got a programme that cleans up on closedown.
I regularly delete browsing history, cookies, and temporary internet files to keep my PC running smoothly. If you delete 'cookies' then you will need to log in each time.

Very peculiar! now that I've shut down the Acer Aspire T120 the Acer Aspire 5101 laptop is still logged in, even if I go to another site and then return here. I can't understand it, they both run through the same router.
I know that this 64 bit processor is causing me a few problems. One piece of software I use which is only available for a 32 bit processor (Linux OS), won't run under it and the only way round it is to use a version written for Windows and run it in the Windows compatability layer, then it works. Adobe reader won't work either way. What chance would you have with a quad core, or is it just that it's a 64 bit. I expect there would be a problem with an AMD Turion 64x2 (128 bit?). maybe the dual (32x2, 64 bit?) and quad (32x4, 128 bit?)core processors get away with it as they are basically 32 bit processors.
My laptop is AMD Turion 64x2 and I don't have your problem.
On your laptop, you may have your browser set to delete cookies every time you close it. You'll need to go into your browser settings and take a look. What browser are you using? I use Firefox mostly, and cookies (and some other things) are listed under 'privacy', in the settings - not very helpfully.
Cookies are useful for keeping logins and passwords filled in, but if you accumulate them over time and never delete them, they can really slow your browser down.
You could just delete them manually every so often, instead of having it automatically done when you close the browser.

In your toolbar at the top of the screen:
Click on "Tools"
Select "Internet Options"
Select "Delete"
Select "Delete history"
Also delete "Cookies". They are what some websites automatically drop into your hardrive via pop-ups and when you view, they allow you to view some websites. Sometimes you do not even know it has been done. They eventually slow down your PC. If you view the website again then they will automatically install on your PC as some are required to operate things like internet banking or shopping.

Well that cleared that mystery up. ;)
Back to square one, not logged in and no other computer running. It doesn't happen with other websites (they stay permanently logged in). So, by the process of elimination it must be something to do with this website, AMD Turion 64 and Ubuntu 64.
It worked OK with XP/AMD64. But why is it OK with all other websites?
