For the last 8/9 weeks I've had a respiratory infection : 10 days off work, antibiotics , the works. i just don't seem to be able to fight it off. Ears blocked, gurgling and singing and hearing affected. I think there might be allergic elements including my cocker spaniels but at ages 7 and 12 I'm not about to get rid of them. Today I came home feeling really tired, dozed off in front of the telly and am now sneezing non-stop and blowing my nose non-stop. Help!!

Has your doctor put you on a really strong decongestant- one that make your mouth as dry as paper? That is usually what I have to take for a sinus infection to dry out the head.
And usually Flonase nose spray works like a charm especially if taken as soon as the congestion is noticed. We live in a high allergy area- those things really help.
Some use salt water spray but I have not tried that yet.

'Moring Grawc. Hope you are feeling better today. Have your sinuses drained now? I find that that is what happens. The non stop sneezing and nose streaming clears things out a bit. Maybe the antibiotic wasn't enough. As for your lug 'oles, sounds like a(nother?) decongestant is required as GA says.
I do hope you pick up soon, shove a(nother?) whisky in your coffee gal, and on your porridge too. ;D :-*
sorry to hear you're feeling sh**ty, anne, Ray uses a nasal spray to help his sinuses, have you been clearing out any dusty places ?..his is brought on by dust from working with wood all those years, here's hoping you feel more yourself today xx
Thank you for those kind words. I think I'll ask the chemist for a decongestant. I've used Contac in the past and it certainly dries things up but leaves you feeling like you're spitting feathers. I'm also tempted to try some antihistamine to see if that helps. I'll get a doctor's appointment next week if none of that helps.

Shocked to read that you're still not better, Modom :'( If I'd known at the time of The Challinge I'd have doctored your choc wiv me strong antihistamines - they're dramatically successful if allergies have come into play. Anyway, please get to the Dr. Monday, OK? Really DO press for an immediate appt.

Good point Hyacinth made about pushing for an appt. With flu season upon us it
does not pay to let one illness drag on because flu on TOP of another can land you
6 feet under ground.
the up side would be you'll never need a decongestant ever again.
Hmmmm, seems to me that something lasting so long with those kinds of symptoms must surely have a trigger somewhere? Something in your home/car/garden/school that's stopping it from clearing up. Perhaps a process of elimination going back to when it started (good luck with that, I can't even remember as far back as last weekend)

The same here! I've had a cold for about 6 weeks but kept going.
2 weeks ago It turned into bronchitis with breathing problems, the doc signed me off week before last and then signed me back on last week (still couldn't breathe properly!)
I worked Tuesday and Wednesday and nearly collapsed Thursday the boss sent me home! went back to the docs Friday morning had an x-ray, the outcome was asthma which was triggered from the bronchitis! The doc gave me two inhalers which has controlled the breathing difficulties, got an ear infection now!! ::)

The company had to classify their cases as "Work Related" which
the govt. frowns upon and rightly so.
If you have any water stained ceiling tiles at work or in your home
that could mean mold is growing somewhere.
i found out i was asthmatic last year and inhalers definatly help does make it harder to shift coughs though.
i know how you are feeling cos i have a stinking cold and have now been told that i have shingles on my eye, that explains the pain and tingling etc.
anyway hope you feel better soon thankfully im not too bad

Debser, did they catch the shingles early? There is a medication that works to decrease the bad symptoms if the shingles are caught in (I think I remember) the first 72 hrs.
I am sorry to hear your not so good Anne. I do hope you feel better soon. I hope you have gone back to your Doctor today, thats a long time to feel ill.
Debster. What an awful place to have shingles. Hope you feel better soon as well. What a lot of trouble out there. Nasty colds, coughs, sickness bugs and so on. Think I will wear a mask.

Sorry you're not feeling the Mae West grawrc, but if I were you I'd leave the Contac capsules off. I only took them once, and they prolonged a cold for weeks (as you seem to be finding).
The best remedy I find for a bad cold is a couple of flu/cold capsules and a big jug of hot lemon and honey. The other thing I tend to indulge in is quite a bit of self pity. ;D

yes thank you Grannie Annie they started the treatment as soon as the first spots/blisters arrived, thats the beauty of working with doctors lol, they had to send me home though cos of the fact its contagious. the treatment is a large suppository sized tablet every four hours for 20 hours of the day for 7 days apparantly they always treat if you get it on your eye. not too bad though the cold feels worse
