I have just picked the last of the apples. Russets which are really nice but did not crop well. Granny Smiths (loads of) which will not ripen now. They only seem to ripen when we have a really long summer and a sunny autumn. Not to worry as they will cook nice. Do any of you have Granny Smiths and do they ripen? I am wondering if I have them in the right place. East facing hedge behind them and no miday sun.
They prefer an open, sunny position. :)
Dorset apple cake.... MMmmmmmm :)
I have a couple of Granny Smiths, but I grow them as cordons in full sun. Picked the last ripe fruit last week.
Well it is only a small tree, so I think I will move it, should be alright if I can get the digger bucket right under it.
The apples are full size and really juicy, also they can be eaten if you like them on the sharp side, but the pips are still
white and the peal takes a bit of chewing.
Had a lovely crumble last night, sprinkled some ginger lumps in with it. She also blitzed some in the vitamix to go with a bit of pork tonight.
