Recommendations for sterilisation/cleaning?. How far do you go, without suggesting, I burn it.
I suggest you get a bucket of water and add 100mls of jeyes fluid,
then give the shed a good scrub out with a stiff sweeping brush.
Dont forget to get into all nooks and crannies.
After I had cleaned it out well, I would get a bucket, add about a third of a bucket of lime then fill up to 2/3 bucket with water, mix it well, add about 25mls of jeyes then leave it to stand for about a hour after which I would stir it well. Then paint it on all the inside surfaces of my shed. Walls, ceiling, nest boxes, etc . Not only will it kill most of the nasties it wil brighten it up no end.
Added as an after thought leave it a day for the white/Lime wash to dry before adding your hens..
Once the scrubbing is all done, ensure the roof is waterproof and carry out any repairs as necessary. Once you have finished this and all your scrubbing and the shed has dried out inside; buy a sulphur candle. close all doors and window and leave it to burn for a minimum of 12 hours. It will fumigate any remaining little critters that may still be lurking.
Hi Ollie.... I'm going to do similar but wait until it's a bit warmer. Fear it would never dry out in a day at present!
Thanks for the info.
My new project has started to show signs of progress, got to be one of the first I've not been rushing in to. When the frost has gone later, it'll be a good day to be down on the plot, not stuck at home losing it.
Regards Ollie.
