I always steam mine - probably - depending on size 5 - 10 minutes?  I never time stuff - just look at it and if it looks right - it probably is!  You could always try a tiny piece to see how tender it is!

Tends to taste fantastic - much better than boiling!

Good luck with your new toy!

when we steam veggies, carrots go above the potatoes then broccoli above them,  about 10 to 15 minutes  :)

We finished up having to buy another steamer cos we like to steam all of our veg. Like Old Bird said they taste heaps better. I do know of some people that do the spuds in the bottom but I prefer mine steamed.

Veg keeps the flavour much better and its more economical..........just one ring instead of 3.....or the electric steamer :D

lbb, It depends how you cut them. I julienne mine so they cook in the few minutes it takes to cook whatever else is in there.

We have the 3 tier steamer.  If we use all 3 tiers then we would steam for up to 20-25minutes - but each section is usually at 1/2 to 3/4  full.  The time will depend upon how many tiers and how full each tier is.  We do not like mushy veg but at the same time we don't serve crunchy veg neither.  For us the raw carrots and stuff is for salads etc - not sunday lunch.  ;)

I steam all of my beetroot. I put 3 tennis sized in the one section take 1hour. you could always do both sections if you want to do more. Tha babby ones only take 30 mins. A friend on the plot gave me one last year that filled the whole steamer it was that big. Did that for 90mins. It was still great evn though it was an old un.

A trick I sometimes use with swiss chard is to wrap it loosely in muslin and just lay it on the top of the other veg, although I've never had trouble with anything clogging the holes up.

We steam all ours too.  I echo as said above -  only uses 1 ring and good stock produced.

Same here - we steam everything, including potatoes, because the taste is so much better.  The Red Duke of York potatoes go very mushy if you boil them but they're fine steamed.
