Title: Fox holes ?
Post by: cornykev on November 21, 2008, 19:42:22
I've been noticing holes appearing in diffferent places on the lottie lately, too small for the local squirrels or cats and I ruled out rats, so I was at a loss until I went up there the other day after work and as I got half way down the path I heard a scuffling noise and saw a large fox scampering over the 6 foot fence and into the park. What sort of things are attracting the fox, what deterents can I use and do you think it was the fox digging holes, and it doesn't dig where the bloody weeds are just the soil I've turned over already.    ;D ;D ;D

it'll be looking for worms and bugs, they form most of there diet at this time of year. Is the fence just on your plot or does it run onto others? If its just on your plot a double strand of electric fencing along the should keep charlie out. If you just want to stop them digging up your plot there is a huge choice of detterents available in the shops, everything from lion dung to pir water sprayers. If all else fails get yourself a couple of terriers!

There what you would call the humane methods of keeping them off your plot, i'd rather shoot them on sight but you cant always do what you'd like to

Is it really doing any harm to your plot? If not, can I suggest you just let it be? I regularly have a fox on my plot but a couple of holes doesn't take much to fill in and the occasional "deposit" is, I think, small price to pay for preserving the wildlife in an environment that is continually erroding the bio-diversity.

Just remember that they're good ratters. they don't do much harm, and a lot of good. The only worry is if you have chickens. We had hens in Cornwall for years, there were lots of foxes, and no harm was done.

You're right tonybloke,  have numerous ' digs ' on my plot - we have seen the culprit,

a fox   --   he/she even chews holes in ground cover to find food.

Has not been too distructive but  think he keeps rats away  -  but, we seem
to have lost our birds  ?
