How's your celariac doing ??? I have never grown it before but oh is it good !! ;D :D
What I want to know is do they suffer if it freezes ?? How long can they stay in the gound ??
Flo :)
They are actually quite tough but if you are likely to have penetrating frosts in a cold site, then some cloche protection is a good idea. I have had no problems is keeping them till the Spring in Glasgow.
I think they're as tough as old rope. I overwinter mine outdoors in Edinburgh and have had no problems so far.
I've been eating mine in my roasts, not very big though, they stay in the ground through winter no problem, although a heavy frost may benifit some fleecing. ;D ;D ;D
brought a few home to store for when we don't go to the plot..I like potato and celeriac mash :)
the others will stay where they are ;D
Ours are still out... ::)
I leave mine in until they are needed, but earth them over for a bit of protection.
