I have 3 pots of asparagus that i've had for two years but this year is the first year they are outside. They appear to be very strong but should i bring them into the greenhouse althought that would be a problem as its ony a small one
why dont you plant them in the ground,i might be wrong but wouldnt of thought they would do much in pots.
They're perfectly hardy, so there's no reason for them to be inside, but I'd havethought they'd be far better off, and have a better chance of surviving, if they were in the ground.
When I prepared my asparagus bed three years ago I was advised to put in a layer of stones then sand then some mushroom compost and then soil. That's about 60 cm of prepared depth so I doubt they would work very well in a pot unless it was a b....... big one. Then you have to wait 3 years at least before you cut any of the crop. So I have not had a stick yet but it will be worth the wait. Dread to think of the cost of one spear though. But then it goes on for ever and ever, well probabl go on longer than me. So stick it in the ground and wait.

plant 2 tear old crowns, pick none 1st year, cut down fern in autumn, mulch heavily 1 spear per crown second year, again leave rest to grow until winter, then cut down to ground level (literally) and mulch again. 3rd year (and subsequent years) cut all spears until midsummers day, leave from then to feed the crown.[attachment=1] Image shows first of the crop poking through ;)
