Nail four pieces of scaffolding width wood together to form the same shape as the glass but make it 2 inches smaller all the way round.  Then just rest the glass on top of the frame over the plants.    In warm weather just move the glass left or right a few inches to allow ventilation.

Would there be any risk of the panes blowing off in a gale? I've been thinking of getting some transparent PVC roofing sheets from a DIY centre and using it for cover, my only puzzle is how to make it secure in a high wind. Much lighter than glass, of course... :D

Secure it using 2 bungees stretched across the glass into small screw hooks in the side of the wood
