We have an azalea in front of a basement window and for two weeks now
a cardinal spends all day flying from shrub and hitting the window. For awhile he was deterred when I placed a large stuffed animal in the window. He soon learned it was no
enemy. I don't know how he has survived with this great energy expenditure-
he can't be spending much time foraging as this noise seems to go on all day.
Prior to this a cardinal (perhaps the same one) was bashing the garage window.
we don't know what a cardinal is, unless it's a cardinal beetle, or someone high up in the Catholic Church
Oops- I forgot- it is a red bird with a crest and a seed-eater type beak. Quite showy.
Ive seen pictures of them GA, they are very pretty birds. I wonder if its just trying to find somewhere dark and snug to roost? Would it be worth trying to get hold of a wooden box and placing it near the window with a perch inside?
Obviously if that doesnt work, he's banged his head a few times too many.........poor thing
lovely birds GA, reminds me of great times spent in North Carolina, /shades x
What a shame I missed this post :-[ Grans will be well on her way to her daughter's now for a few days. Other US friends had this happen & they bought some auto-adhesive non-reflective plastic stuff for the window...can't remember if the Cardinal was trying to attack its own image or mate with it ::)..probably the former this time of year? :-\
They're the most beautiful bird. I've a pic sent me last Feb...woodland scene, high trees heavy with snow, all grey and white and there, high up in a tree, a flash of crimson 8)
Shades, remembered you when I was tasting that week's Special Brew at The Top of The Hill in Sept :D
