Title: potting bench
Post by: netty on October 27, 2008, 16:52:17
hi all I am now the proud owner of a new shed and want to use it to its full advantage. I would like to use it to pot up plants etc and was wondering what do you all use for a potting bench and if you have a bought one ,how much would it cost me.thanks in advance :)

I don't know how much they charge for the 'real thing' these days, but I bought a pair of trestles from Aldi for about £15 and just laid some planks on top. The main advantage, from your point of view I would think, is that it is easy to take down when you've finished the potting.

You could make one from old pallets

I bought a flat pack wooden bench from Do it All  [ Focas ] , It has been a great provider
for many years --  it was 19.99,   is now painted bright blue on my lottie - up against the side of my shed and  is the only ' standing' work spot I've got.

Used to be inside our older bigger shed, and in an 8 by 6 it fitted just right  --  sure they still sell
them, but don't all rush 'cause I need another one !!!

Flossy how long ago was that it sounds good mine is an 8 by 6. Also I never thought of a trestle table but the fact it can be folded away when not needed is a bonus Euronerd so theres another option. After all must leave room for my chair and a folding table for my tea and biscuits  ;)I feel a shopping trip coming on  ;D

Netty, why not go for a decorators board which fold up flat and open out with legs at each end, I would think that would suit your purpose B&Q would be the favorite to get hold of one :)

The tea and biscuits area comes first Netty, and the potting bench has to fit in around it.  ;D

wood sawing say, solid legs and a slatted under shelf  ---   good luck if you decice to seek one out.

maybe not in your shed but ray made me one for the greenhouse from an old mesh-type ironing board, folds down in summer for the tomatoes and then pulled up and attached to pot things on  ;D

When the Landlord refurbished my kitchen recently the men were going to throw out  my kitchen unit. Saved it, son just had to cut the work surface down a bit. Son-in-law made me some nice posh metal sides and back pieces which are being screwed to the side/back of work surface to keep the compost in. The w/surface is longer than the actual unit so I now have a 3 draw unit to keep everything in and a space at the side for tools or compost etc.

Have already sorted that euronerd, folding table and chairs for our tea breaks ;Dthanks Flossy will keep that in mind when looking, I like the idea of using the kitchen units but hubby wasnt too keen on the idea of a new kitchen ??? he said the decorating table sounds far better...wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that they are less than a tenner in Focus!!!!!!!
Isnt it fab to have a shed? cant understand why friends look at me gone off when I say that to them they obviously dont know how to live ;D
