Aren't the row spacings a bit generous for raised beds?

I also think some of the spacings are a bit on the generous side, but no doubt it depends on varieties, types of beds etc but it does give me a general idea as to how much space will be needed and could therefore help me plan my plot better ;D
you guys are very funny the reason for the row space has to do with need for farmer to weed,turn plow, and other reason.
For the small scale grower you should use either the square foot spacing or offset spacing aka biodynamic spacing.
I will post chart common small scale gardener spacing.
Please do TGG, looking forward to seeing it sounds useful.
I saw cabbages planted on TV and they seemed much closer than suggested on the packet. It would be nice to know how close you can get them and still get a decent crop.

The french beens sound a bit close "french bean dwarf 2-3in 18-24in"
I have not taken much notice of distances needed as i was resricted for space so all my brussels, greens, savoy, premo, white/puple sb, cailiflower and curly kale are in rows stagared, so it is roughly 12" all round between plants.
They look like they are doing really well, but as this is my first time growing i will have to wait and see.

Don't need to plant in rows in raised beds, as the beds themselves form the rows. Plant in blocks instead.

Just use your common sense. Plant things 'willy nilly', some grow well, some don't. Some plants like to be close to each other. That is the fun of allotments, plants come up in the most unexpected places. I think you will find that plants find where they like to grow best and just 'go with the flow'.

One actually needs to think beyond just plant spacing, which is only a part of the exercise. You also have to consider how much top growth there is, is a a root veg, does it need support, etc etc. Also culturally there are differences in the way of growing stuff - in Italy they grow broad beans in tight groups of 5, the plants hold each other up, and I'm always being told mine are TOO FAR APART - WHEN WILL YOU EVER LEARN! OK, next year ... ... :-\ :-\ :-\

Thanks Tim for the chart and thanks TGG for the helpful alignment.
I do block planting rather than rows, so I add together the plant and row spacings and block plant at those spacings. As I get more experienced I vary the spacings based on that and what happened last time. So, for example, I plant sweetcorn closer to encourage pollination and underplant with beans and squash. I just make sure that the soil is enriched accordingly. It works some of the time!
We all know how much these things vary from variety to variety, from plot to plot, from season to season. It could get boring otherwise! ;)

Nah - that won't take long - cut and paste into Word and then use tabs to format (these won't work on an internet forum as it will tab from box to box as in table. Then cut and paste back into the reply box (the tab spaces will remain) and voila - an easier to read, formatted list. No time at all!

Other than when I post a question (very often quite simple ones) direct to the forums I also refer to TeeGees Gardeners Almanac, in my humble opinion everything is explained that even a gardening dope like me can understand.
Whatever subject is being discussed there will always be different ideas. Who is to say who is right or wrong. Whatever suits.
Nothing to do with gardening but years ago when we first started keeping/breeding pigs my late husband bought several books. One expert would say wean the young at so many weeks, next expert would differ by as much as 4 weeks. So again through experimenting you find what best works for you.

I totally disagree to every comment in this quote. I have used Teegee's site on several occasions and it has been very helpful to someone like me starting out. It may not suit everyone's circumstances or plots but it's freely and willingly offered and lets face it if it doesn't work for you, you learn from the mistake anyway. Could you please just stick to offering advice, it's far more constructive.

the chart i posted was to be used as a basis as one of the most commonly asked question on our site from beginners is how far apart should they go? As with most things the spacings can be tweaked for personal preference eg plant the caulis closer together to get smaller heads etc.
I find that in all things some people will freely offer advice based on what works for them eg tee gee and others will always try to shout them down but never offer there own work for examination. I feel that TGG should either put up or shut up as he has had nearly 1 month to reformat his chart so it can be shared with everyone.
