I have a bay tree Debs and its always lived outdoors in my garden. They are hardy. Mine was planted outdoors seven years ago as a very small plant about four inches tall its now 8 feet tall!!!!!
If yours has always been outside it should be fine!!

Yes Bay is hardy, but it hates cold winds.  If you can put it in front of a west-facing wall it will be very happy.

Mine is a few years old now and at first it stayed indoors over winter then went outside again in summer.

Then it got too big and I planted it outside over winter about three years ago.

It is now too big for it's outside spot and has had to be hacked back severely.

I am in the North West UK where it is cooler than a lot of other areas.
