Title: I just had to share this!
Post by: oakmore2 on October 22, 2008, 22:07:25
Apologies for sounding like a complete nutter, but I am SO EXCITED.

This evening I have eaten my first real meal from my allotment (not counting radishes, lettuce and spinach). Potatoes, brocolli/some kind of sprouting stuff (was given it so not really sure what variety it is) and carrots. My sound like a boring and odd meal to many, but I couldn't be happier!!!

;D ;D ;D

I am glad I am not the only one who got excited the first time I provided all the veg for dinner. Well done - wait till the first Christmas when you have provided the brussels, parsnips etc.......you'll be pleased as punch. ;D

I agree Oakmore, its bliss eating your own produce.

It will be the same every season, not just the first one.  ;D ;)

I'm hoping to have at least a little to add to Christmas dinner.

I picked some spinach last week and to watch my 9month old daughter eat it was fantastic.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who gets this excited about eating my own produce. Was starting to think I'm a bit of a nutter!

Glad that's not just me either. I've grown the world's smallest pumpkin this year. I've been looking forward to maing soup with it all summer. My OH is adamant that I should supplement it with a pumpking from the supermarket, but even if i can only make one bowl of soup from my pumpkin, I am determined to let it be the star of the show without it being 'adulterated' by something from the supermarket!!
;D ;D

Fruit will have to wait until next year for me, but have planted rhubarb, raspberries and have just ordered some blueberries so fingers crossed!

;D ;D i'm like that every year when the fruit and veg come into it's own picking time, lettuce, new potatoes, any type of beans to fresh peas, the list goes on and on ;D ;D
it only gets better every year ;D ;D ;D

Nothing finer than eating your own produce, I can't wait to have a proper go next year after getting our allotment back into  reasonable condiction after several years of neglect :)

Hahaha - yes, I'm exactly the same. In fact, my wife's getting annoyed that I suggest having (home grown) runner beans with every meal, rather than (shop bought) broccoli etc.
