Title: Finally Dug Over My Lottie!
Post by: KLCG on October 20, 2008, 16:25:42
;D I am so  so happy and so so knackered!!!!!

Taking off the turf was the hardest part about this.  Once i got the hang of my autospade the digging was easy.  No strain on the back but my shoulders hurt. My hubby did me proud by helping to take off the turf and finish the digging, when our 3yr old got so bored that i had to leave.  I started taking off the turf on Friday, worked all over the weekend and finished it this morning. Its not perfect by all means, still need to sift through to get all the roots out and then rake through to level it.  I was going to rotovate it but have now decided not to. There are a lot of suspicious roots in there that i can easily pull up as i go along but not if one root becomes 100 small roots!!! So now i have to build my raised beds - just waiting for my Dad to drop off the wood, then this weekend I plant my onions and garlic.

Just a few pics to show how we have done, its the same view and we have added a shed.  So pleased....

Thank you
The first pic was taken 10th August - then i went on holiday, then became really busy with life - so didnt get back to the allotment till 2 weeks ago.  Then i took the second pic today.  Feel i have achieved loads in a short time.  I have had all the old boys saying well done and dont get bored with it etc

Oooh well done you! Exciting innit?!

Good plan not to rotovate IMHO, you will get all the nasties out and have a cracking good start for next season.

Well done, looking great.
After you plant the onions/garlic are you going to cover the rest of the ground until spring or use green manure?

I live opposite the plot so i am hoping (so so  hoping) that with a daily trip over to the plot i shouldnt have to dig it over again.  I will just fork over in january, my fear is that i will wake one day and find i have 10ft weeds again! ;)
