i got a free day today and was planning spending most of it at the allotment but its a real gale wind out there today and raining a bit to looks like i be sitting looking out of the window lol
Me too. Bought a roll of scaffold rubble netting and was going to put up some wind breaks today but it's far too windy here as well...
Oh the irony of it!
Same here- a day off, away all weekend, and now rain and wind. Might get some seeds sown in the greenhouse though.
Well i knew today would be wiped out, I only have Thursday available this week and it now looks as though it's going to rain. Next Week is half term so that's not looking good for me either.......teenagers have other ideas. :(
Windy here in Enfield too, don't bother with the lottie Mondays and a good job because its started to rain. :( ;D ;D ;D

:(
I did go to the lottie yesterday in the hope the rain would stop. I did do a few jobs, but had to call it a dead loss as I got soaked.
Today is much better. Sunny but cold. I will wait awhile then venture outside to my own garden instead today. A bit too wet to be doing any digging etc at the lottie. Fingers crossed it dries up a bit by Wednesday/Thursday :)
Thursday is my only possible day this week. Today is lovely here but I'm stuck at home and of course the weather forecast for Thursday has gone from sunny to heavy showers now it's changed this morning to heavy rain! :'(
Sunny 8) today but still no lottie as I'm still a bit under the weather. :( ;D ;D ;D
Nice but a bit chilly today. There weren't many bees flying, but a swarm I picked up over the summer was bringing in a bit of pollen. I hope they get through tghe winter, as they're native type, and very good bees. I'm in the middle of planting my alliums.
I wish I could have bees Robert. How do you pick up a swarm? Wont they go back from whence they came?
Beautiful day here in Essex, spent all afternoon clearing beans and stuff in my shirt sleeves. 'twas warm.
Loads of catching up to do, so I'm on the plot come rain or shine this week as next week is spoken for ::)
Get the equipment and contact your local beekeepers' Association. You never know, they might have some secondhand equipment, or know where to get it. Swarms usually turn up in early summer. I got two this year, both in July, which is on the late side. One came from another beekeeper. It was quite weak, the queen soon failed, and I gave it another. Without having other hives as well, I doubt whether I could have kept that one going. The second turned up one day the same week, hanging on the side of an empty hive, so I just knocked it in. It's flourishing.
Type "Top Bar Beekeeping" into google and you'll find out everything you need to know. Including plans to make your own hive for litterally a few quid, less than that if you have any scrap wood.
I went to a bee keeping auction and even the cheepest second hand hive and what you need to run it cost mega money.
Top Bar beekeeping is so mega simple by comparison. I've got permission to have bees on my plot but I sill need to get one of those round tuits.
yeah next week the kids of school so not much chance of me getting on the lottie.so thursday and friday thisn week i hope lol
Thanks for the suggestions both, but sadly I've got nowhere to keep a hive. I do find bee keeping fascinating though so I'll have a read.
Another beautiful day here, mostly spent tidying plot up for winter. Got LOADS done ;D
I haven't tried top bar hives myself, but there are a few people around using them. If youy join the Irish Beekeepers (it's actually international) at http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/irishbeekeeping/ , and ask, you should hopefully find someone. I can't remember who has them.
Ok no rain yet but the winds to strong!
