Title: Best Sugar Snap Pea
Post by: realfood on October 19, 2008, 19:47:47
I have grown sugar snap peas, the ones with the thick fleshy pods, for several years, and always thought that they could be a bit better. This year, I grew a new one called "Sugar Lord". It produced a huge crop of the sweetest, crunchiest, juiciest, thick walled pods that I have ever grown.
The packet said that it was 1 to 1.5m high, but it turned out to be 2m+, but as I was growing it up bean netting, it was not a problem.
Has anyone else grown this variety and what did you think of it?

How many did you plant and how many members of your family did it feed?
Can they be picked and eaten raw?

They sound lovely and i want to try some next year but have no idea how many to plant, i want to try and grow stuff we can munch on while down the allotment.

I only planted a 1/2 row as I had other varieties of snap peas and other varieties of "mangetout" peas.
I ate far too many of my sugar snap peas at the allotment, very moreish!!

I do not count them, but the half row was about 2m long. About 50 seeds in a double row.
