He was the judge for Derby in Bloom last year, wandered up my plot path to have a look around and a chat, seems like a nice bloke!

Sorry you've had to wait but i have been busy. when i asked him his thoughts on GW he replied that the show had gone down hill after Titchmarsh left and the BBC put an ex jeweller in charge. So i asked him what about the current line up,"well Toby is no Geoff Hamilton is he"
went on to tell me that he did a GQT type thing at a gardening club with Carol and she  told the audience not to ask her about veg as she knew nothing about growing veg,did you not do a series on veg and you've got a book out on the same subject the audience asked," i was contracted to do the show and the only thing i contributed to the book is the forward,"at least she was honest said Mr F. Did the same sort of  show with our Joe,IF members of the panel knew the answer to a question they lean forward at the table, and if they don't know the answer they lean back from the table so the chairman knows who to pick to answer the question, said that Joe leaning back most of the evering!theres a difference between being a designer and a gardener, and what a nit rotivating in all that mares tail.
So there ya have it ...and now i have told ya I'm going to have to kill ya. 8).... ;) ;D

Well if that is true what you say about Carol I am outraged.

I am a particular fan of hers and have bought her books.

What a con,

What a con,
He said she knows all there is to know about herbaceous plants but not veg so could not understand why they got her to do a program on veg.Said she was lovely to work with.

Typical BBC.  Treating its licence payers (aka salary payers) as idiots.

To be fair to Carol, when she did the "Grow your own" series, she said at the start that she hadn't grown veg for years and was looking forward to starting again,(hence all the excitement when she succeeded!) and quite a bit of the series was her visiting other veg growers, like our own Supersprout.

Yes caroline, I agree.

I think the reason they chose Carol was for her enthusiasm  (she may have gone a bit OTT at times).  She was demonstrating that you don't have to have an allotment, or an enormous plot of land, but that you can grow in small spaces in your back garden, even in small containers, with enthusiasm.  She marvelled at her success (and which of us doesn't/hasn't).   She also encouraged others in the series, and yes it was lovely to see our supersprout.

I think where Gardeners' World has lost the plot, is that they think it necessary to throw hundreds of pounds into a project.  You look at, for example, the wildflower meadow.  Wouldn't want one.  I can leave the weeds to it ant get a similar effect.

well that explains a lot about Carol!
I watched her programme as I had only just got the lottie and was looking forward to lots of tips on successful veg growing from a gardening expert.  I was really disappointed as although the series looked great with lots of sundrenched shots of the garden, gorgeous looking foliage etc, there was very little on how to actually grow stuff. Just Carol sticking some seeds in the ground and then cut to a shot of her picking something several months later!

Still I'm sure she is a lovely person who does know her stuff...but what a waste of a series (except for the guests who did all seem to know much more about it...shame they couldn't have presented it instead!)

Rant over....thanks froglegs for enlightening me. I will now undergo a total memory wipe to preserve confidentiality. (or as we know it round here, go to the pub  ;) )
