Hi everyone: I've been given some strawberry plants, variety unknown. Should I kee them potted up to overwinter, or plant them out now. Also, should I manure (my soil is typical Cornish dust and stones, my lottie is up on a windy hill), and what kind of spacing should I use when I do plant out. Help would be very appreciated, plus any tips for keeping off slugs which are LEGION after the awful season we've had down yer.
Thanks ???
You could plant them out now, or grow them on in pots if you don't have space. If your soil's dust, it needs organic matter. Manure, dead leaves, grass cuttings, anything will do.
Not to late :)
Yes manure would help them and i do mine about 10" apart.
Give them a feed in the spring and water them well untill they get settled in.
Now is a good time. Add some manure or compost and get them in the ground.
we've still got 6 to go in this week, nice, mild, wet weather ;D
you could always dig a hole, fill with some good soil, plant into that
perfect time to plant, I've just planted 30 out, they might not look much over the winter, will look as if they have died but they'll be fine
Just planted 25 new plants. They look dead but I live in hope. The root systems seem ok.
