Well am so excited after months of waiting we've got an allotment 5 minutes walk from our house. At the moment it's just a patch of grass (about 10 foot by 20 foot) with a little bit of bindweed and knot weed by the gate which we obviously need to get rid of ???
It's a bit of a community thing (shared between 4 houses of really good friends), but none of us have had an allotment before and not sure how to go about planning it: no one wants to fall out over a cabbage. We intend going up on Saturday and having barbequed sausage sandwiches for lunch and begin to dig it over, rather than rotivating it as obviously that just cuts up the weeds. Any advice/experiences would be greatly appreciated!
hiya, feath, welcome to the site ;D
make a paper plan, work out what you all like to eat, over as you clear and have a laugh ;D
take it easy and don't do too much
Hi Feath and welcome to A4A from me too.
If you are handy with the computer mouse how about trying
WWW.GrowVeg.Com.
It provides a FREE 30 day trial, where you can plot out your allotment (nothing to download) and then print it out.
Good luck and congrats on getting your lottie
Lauren :)
Hi Feath!
In case you were confused, manics meant "cover" as you clear! As one whose plot is inundated with couch grass, I would say it's really worth trying to get rid of ALL the grass if possible- if you leave grass paths it will grow back. Or you can build raised beds, but that may cost money.
Good luck, let us have some before and after pics.
Welcome Feath. Ensure everyone does their fair share of grafting and clearing ;D ;D
