One of my wacky new crops ran to seed instead of making edible roots. Oh dear.

is it the wild variety, i grow the wild variety and the flowers are much bigger. i tried it last year and the roots were quite bitter, but must admit they were in their second year and i read they should be harvested in the first year before they flower when the roots are their best before the dormant period in winter. your post has reminded me to search out some of this years first growth plants to see if the roots are more substantial and/ tastier :-\. will let you all know how i faired.
