Title: Beer festival 08
Post by: Froglegs on October 12, 2008, 11:38:47
Went to the Robin Hood beer festival at Nottingham castle last night, and with over 500 real ales to try with names like Piddle,Gadd's dogbolter,Scutchamans thingy, and Croak and Stagger,a good time was had by all.My favorite was Beljing black from the Potbelly brewery in Kettering,a nice dark mild had to try that one twice. ::).The one thing that did strike me as strange is that real ale drinkers(including me)all have beards and would not look out of places in the group Jetho Tull. :-[i wonder if its something they put in the beer :-\ .But after last nights cervisial, i feels like I'm wearing my belaclava inside my head,so will not get much done in the garden today as the sun is to Strong for my poor eyes . 8)

I would think you would need a beard to filter the lumps out of some of those brews ;D

The dark mild sounds good, a drink of the past down this way, a good social drink in its time. So weak you could still drive home after 6 pints.

The beard thing is intersting - Annabelle calls Beer "beard", and thinks that that is what makes you grow a beard the next day (stubble). The other day she said, "Daddy, why doesn't clever juice (the other name for beer) give mummy a beard?".

I don't have a beard or a pot belly and I only drink real ale and frequently frequent festivals.  However, I do concede that I am the exception and not the rule.

Did it have 'please drink sensibly' on the label.

Strange..

I went to the 4 day beer festival in Liverpool on Friday night.

Not a beard, curly hair or shell suit in sight, just shaven heads, football strips and beer bellies (except me, no football strip or shaven head)

It must be only in Notts then that you need a beard to drink real ale.
