Title: What can be planted
Post by: Hosta on October 12, 2008, 09:08:52
Clueless about veg growing and need some advice.

School where I work have some large deep planters. Would like to grow veg in them but dont know what to put in them this time of the year, or if we can plant anything at this time of the year LOL

Any suggestions ?

Last year they grew Potatoes in other large tubs, now I am I right in thinking that we cant grow them in the same place next year ?

Am really going to have to read up on all this properly, but would really appreciate any advice and help

Thanks

I would just add that if you are growing in planters in the same soil as last year, make sure you dig in some new compost and give it a good feed (I swear by seaweed meal) as the potatoes will have taken a lot of goodness out of it.

CORRECT it is always good practice to replace soil used in a previous year to stop the build up of disease and pests in the soil. Even in an alloltment and garden this is advisable. In small spaces it is even more advisable. You can also grow a different vegetable in the same soil as long as you feed it with some kind of liquid fertiliser Tomatoe fetiliser is well recommended.
