I thought Id like to share with you my harvest of pumpkins and butternut squashes!!! I didn't do bad for a newbie (first year of having an allotment) :o
These pumkins were from two plants and my first attempt at butternut squash were from one plant. They were a bit on the small side but I am so proud of them!!

brilliant - all those big pumpkins from just two plants
I decided to leave them to their own devices! I didn't want to grow huge big ones. I have found a recipe for pumpkin chutney. I will be making it tomorrow. I think I will carve two!! and give some away :) If anyone has a good recipe for a pumpkin pie I would love to try it.

Duke I have a 2 recipes for my own really good pumpkin pies but I have packed my handwritten book however I know I have put them on here before....one is baked and one is a dream pie with a ginger crust. It took me years to get them exactly the way I wanted and at the risk of sounding big headed they are both great recipes. I will try and find it for you. Also has tips on hpw to prepare the pumpkin for pies.XX Jeannine
We ate our first pumpkin in a risotto last night, our own garlic, onion, parsley and homemade stock. And we baked the seeds in the oven to have afterwards. :P :P :P
They are splendid. :D
Have a good firkle for that recipe Jeannine - did pumpkin pie for hubby two nights ago and he wasn't that impressed :( The ginger one could sway him though :D
Will be relying you - grew Amish Sugar pie pumpkins this year and so far no tried and trusted recipes - only what i can trawl off general internet sites.
Duke, what variety are they BTW?
Many folks have my two recipes. the secret to the baked one is the pumpkin purree is run through a blender with hot ingredients so the filling is as smooth as silk. They are on here some where and I think I posted them to Carolinej
I am stuck too as I wanted to make them myself.

QuoteI think I posted them to Carolinej
Sorry Jeannine, I never got them :(
Would really like the dream one with ginger crust :P ;D Sounds yummy!!
Not that I had a glut of pumpkins this year :-[
cj :)
Thanks Jeannine I look forward to both those recipes!!
Mothy~~ I bought the seeds from Lidl's so I really dont know what variety they were ....! If you have bought seeds from lidls before you might be aware that their seeds come from a European country and the packets have little in the way of description or instructions.( for the most part they have symbolic instructions).
I took a chance with these seeds because they were very cheap when I bought them however I have only had success with Lidls seeds! I also think that their seed may have different varieties within one pack. I planted two seedlings and both resulted in pumpkins of a different shape. Maybe this is what happens when the seeds are so cheap.
Sorry I wish I could help I no longer have the seed packet.

Oh dear, I have posted it out several times..someone must have it!!
