Monday I was fishing at a very secluded spot in Rutland when this Kingfisher landed next to my peg about six foot away, never been that close to one before and what a beautiful bird :)
They are indeed. I used to see them on the Thames below Sandford Lock when I was a kid, and one year I found where they were nesting in the side of an old gravel pit.
I had never seen one in this country until recently when I gave up my car and started catching the bus to work. Now I see them most days (from the top deck), along with Canada geese, grebes, herons, coots and assorted ducks. Must be the best journey to work ever!
