Title: first ex-bat casualty
Post by: manicscousers on October 06, 2008, 17:35:06
the 'opener up' found one of the ex battery hens dead this morning, no symptoms, with 18, we can't tell if she'd been laying or not, they all seemed ok sunday morning, plenty to eat, no-one moping around, just one of those things, I suppose..we'll keep a close watch on the others now. :-\

I know what it is like when that happens.  It is just one of those things that can even happy to a young healthy hen

Thats a shame Manics at least she did'nt suffer. Might be an idea to give them some poultry spice mixed with their food. Its like a tonic for the winter. Are they laying ok?

I am sorry too, so sad a healthy hen can have a heart atack.
poultry spice is good also ACV in the water, with the colder nights comming some corn late in the evening helps keep them warm through the night fills their crops.
