Title: Update - Allotment Site Histories
Post by: BAK on October 04, 2008, 15:23:57
As some may have noticed previously, I periodically encourage people to write a history of their own allotment site. It does not have to be a huge tome; many are simply the equivalent of a page of A4.

I have added another 7 links to local allotment site histories. They include:

Imberhorne Allotments http://imberhorneallotments.org/allotment%20history.htm  (http://imberhorneallotments.org/allotment%20history.htm)

Edgbaston Guinea Gardens http://www.edgbastonguineagardens.org.uk/id1.html (http://www.edgbastonguineagardens.org.uk/id1.html)

The complete list of links can be found in the History of Allotments page on the A4A wiki

or at http://www.sunningdaleallotments.org.uk/OtherSiteHistories.html (http://www.sunningdaleallotments.org.uk/OtherSiteHistories.html)

When you have written your own add it to the History of Allotments page ... or I will do it for you if you do not feel comfortable playing with wiki.

Just read your piece in the new NSALG mag, BAK.  Very interesting.  Every site has a story to tell.  Keep up the good work.

Thanks ceres ... and well spotted.

For anybody who is wondering what this is about, I penned a piece for the NSALG magazine as part of my "crusade" to persuade people to write a history of their own site. It includes an abbreviated version of the history of our site - Sunningdale Allotments in Berkshire.

If you are interested but do not have a copy of the NSALG magazine you can find the full version of our history here ...

You will also find links to the histories of other sites here in the A4A wiki (under History of Allotments) and here ...

links to 5 more site histories added: Longbarrow, Roehampton, Froyle, Romford Smallholders Society and Diggle Lane.

In addition, Great Somerford (one of the oldest allotment sites) is mentioned. Unfortunately, the material is only in book form and the link simply tells you how you may purchase a copy.

The full list of links to other site histories can be found under History of Allotments on the A4A wiki page or here ...
