Hi
been down to the site again this morning and was looking more closely at the weeds there. I could easily identify some but there is one (and the most prevelant) that I can't identify. I'll have to describe it for now and will try and upload a picture shortly.
Height: About 12 inches
Flowers: small yellow flowers on a cluster at the to
Leaves: Lower down on the plant with ragged edges - similar to a nettle
Down the stem are "spikes" that are coming off - they point upwards but they aren't sharp
Off to go and get the camera now as I'm rubbish at describing :-[
My initial thought, and worry, was that it was horsetail but from the pictures that I've seen it doesn't have flowers or leaves like this one does.
Any ideas what it is? If so what is the best way to treat it? If you need any more info - let me know the pc will be on for a while yet!
TIA
Sharon

Hello Sharon I've always found this site good for identifying weeds
http://www.dgsgardening.btinternet.co.uk/weeds.htm
Thanks folks! I'm searching on that site now but no luck so far.
I'm hoping that I've uploaded these OK but here goes:

if you didn't mind me doing that Frampers
No worries at all!! :) Had to dash out on a school run. I'll try and do some more this afternoon. I'll try and follow the right links. What sort of photos are easiest to identify this plant from?
Thanks
Sharon
if it isn't charlock, then it'll be on the same page in the wild flower book (can't find my big one). It's definitely a crucifer (like brassicas)
what about rapeseed ???
You beat me to it Im sure its rape
Ooh ??? I've only ever seen rapeseed in the huge fields and I don't remember any being around here.
As I've said before this is a brand new allotment site that is being converted into lotties at the moment. Whether it is charlock or rapeseed is it worth continuing with or will there just be so much work to do that it's prohibitive?
If it's not prohibitive then what is the best way to deal with these plants? Do I need to dig it all into the ground this winter and then cover
Cheers
Sharon
None of the crucifers I can think of is a major problem. It's just another annual weed.
Yes its rape..........or grape if there's a bunch of them ::)
