Title: SMALL CHRYSANTHEMUM-BAD DISEASE
Post by: Nemesia on October 01, 2008, 17:20:02
This was a lovely plant as the flowers were very very white. After two years I had lots of them in pots around the garden but then,  in August I think it was, I noticed  most were badly diseased. There are brown marks on every leaf and they did not flower although they had a lot of buds.
Is this rust?

I have managed to save a couple and have put them well away from the others which I cut right down so is there anything I can do to prevent the disease getting to the ones that are free of it now?

NB Don't think it is the soil as it is likely to be a different type in each pot.

It sounds very much like rust, which is a fungal disease. You have done the right thing by moving them as far away as possible from the affected ones .Don't water overhead so as to wet the leaves, only water the soil around the stem. As a preventative you could spray with a fungicide like Dithane or Bordeaux mixture.

I have got some Dithane so I will try that - thank you.
