Name please?
Had a trough of Pea shoots germinating nicely. Then the tips started going brown & withering.
Saw this a day or so ago but thought no more of it.
Till today. Watched it scavenging all over the surface - Vermiculite - not scared of me - nosing quite deep in.
Can this have been the culprit? It's longish & thinnish.
It looks like a Maggot Fly Tim.
Does that eat shoots??

No TIM flesh, I don,t know what type of fly it is. I thought you may have Googled it and thought " Bugger Me "
Well, something's ruining my shoots - & also the new growth on the indoor Parsley nearby.
It's too slim for a Blowfly. And too unconcerned!
Could it be Leather Jackets ( crane fly ) they are usually active in September.
Could it be a Sciriad fly/Fungus fly

Nice tries. But:
1. Def not Daddy Long Legs.
2. Sciriad? A bit underweight??
TIM. The more i look at this post the more i think that the fly which i think is a Black Fly has nothing to do with your problem. Perhaps you should have a rake around the top one inch of the soil for some Leather Jackets.
