I need to move 2 comfrey plants that started as 2 sticks and are now about 1 metre tall.
How easy is to move them to another plot? How deep are the roots? Can I simply hack them down to almost nothing and just move a small stem/root ball?
Still trying to get rid of comfrey. The roots can be quite woody and brittle and hard to totally eradicate!! but its easy to move propagate. My problem is that my comfrey is growing in the wrong places and I need to get shot of it!! I hate things that are hard to control. The roots go down a long way too its the devil to kill you will be okay LOL!!

comfrey roots down for miles.great plant but should come with a health warning.Give it it's own patch in any unused patch where it cann't run you mad..As for moving dig it up trim the leaves and plant any old how always comes back ;D
brilliant - cheers.
i did think they were pretty robust plants. we'll see next year if the move works!
if the weather stays mild you'll see in a few weeks :D
If by a freak of nature it doesn't transplant ::)you can always come and dig up mine ;D

Just had a thought. I have a large bed of comfrey & use a lot in spring for compost acceleration/tea etc.. The plants are in full flush at the moment. Would they be as good as the early growth?
