Title: please help
Post by: bedrockdave on September 23, 2008, 13:50:24
???without a photo can anyone identify a pest that has destroyed my onions and is now all over some of mt potatoes. it is white ,about  1 to 2mm long with lots of legs like a centipede and two 'feelers' on the top of its head. they ate all the roots on my onions and are everywhere over my pots :(.
if you can identify them will it be safe to plant on the patch next year or would it be better left to rest?

Sounds like onion root fly to me but the mention that it is on your potatoes as well throws me a bit  ???

Have a look in here;http://www.oisat.org/pests/pests__insect_mite/flies/onion_fly/pest_information.html (http://www.oisat.org/pests/pests__insect_mite/flies/onion_fly/pest_information.html)
