Someone was asking about these not long ago, but I can't find it. Mine are coming up again and looking strong; they're still in a seed tray, but I'll be potting them up soon, once they've all come back up.
I have plenty of the tops if anybody wants to try some! ;D
Hi saddad, I'd love to try them if you can spare a few please! I just learned something - I was looking them up on the Plants for a Future database and read that they are toxic to dogs, as are all alliums apparently. I'd never heard this before. You learn something every day!
PS Robert - your walking onions are doing great, thank you!
it may well have been me that was asking about them. I've tried them up here for a few years now and they just dont seem to like it, I get mediocre growth and the head half flowers.
Probably best down south in a lighter soil.
I mentioned them too about a week ago, ( norty me I hijacked a thread to ask about them!)
Mine are still in pots, in the greenhouse now. I was going to leave them in there till spring.....is that right?
Ceres that is also news to me too........alliums being toxic to dogs, grapes and chocolate also toxic. I had a beagle cross years ago who nearly died after stealing peanuts. Serious nut allergy, bless her she was also allergic to the anti biotics she was given. She was ok, but had us all very worried.
;D ;D Gawds, not only a thread hijacker on other peoples posts, I even do it myself ;D ;D ;D
I think pots is the way to go until they reach a reasonable size.
They do OK halfway down (Derby) in heavy clay Stan, PM me Ceres and I'll look some out for you... ;D
