Title: What to paint a new chicken coop with?
Post by: Greenfingers Jo on September 22, 2008, 13:20:06
Hi,
Just had a wooden coop for my birthday. Its not treated so I need something that preserves the wood and is animal friendly.

Can anyone recommend a brand of paint as all the ones I've seen so far don't say pet or child friendly?

Thanks

Jo

Hi Jo

Aren't you lucky!  Happy Birthday for whenever it was/is!

Do you need to colour it or is it just to use preservative and a colour?

I have used the one with preservative and colour from Cuprinol.  It is quite expensive but does the job!

Hi Old Bird,

My OH kept asking and he had always said chickens after the polytunnel but he was stuff for ideas so I get chickens first and I'll get the tunnel whenever they're having a sale!!
I'll be busy this winter prepping everything.

I'm not too fussed about the colour but I guess probably brown or green to keep it discreet. ;D
I've tried a Ronseal one with wax in it in the past, on a gate  but it keeps pealing off.

Thanks for the info, I'll look at the Cuprinol stuff

Cheers
Jo
