Took me ages to find some of these tips.

Grave > CTRL+\ (top left key) > then type letter.

Acute > CTRL+' > then type letter.

that's handy. I usually find the word on a French website and copy and paste

I don't know about MS Word but it is much easier in Open Office, just go to "insert"/"special character" and it will display all the characters available in the font you are using. Click on the one you want and it will insert it.

In Word it's INSERT - SYMBOL :) :)
