Post by: straush on September 14, 2008, 18:52:29
i am still clearing my new allotment however i inherited some aspargus.  some of them has red fruit - should i do somethnig with it - if so,  what and when.

i also noticed some of them has been pushed over by the thisles and grass - do i need puch them upright and stake them  ?   or do i just leave them.    (i cut all the thistle a few inches from ground and tried to remove some of the grass)

thank you

I think you can leave them for now until the ferny foliage goes brown, then cut them down to about 2".

I've had berries on some of mine (female, I believe) and the first year I hired a child to pick them off for me.  Didn't bother after that and it didn't affect them at all.
