Allotments 4 All

Hi all, well i've going to give up my allotment this year, i just can't keep it in a good shape anymore, weedfree, or dug over, so i sat down and chatted with my wife, i said for what i have to do and what i get back it just don't work out right  and with my bad back, it needs more commitment,
i can grow all we need in my back garden,
so over winter i will tidy things up and give it back, :'( :'( :'(

im sure you have considered this already,but what about sharing it?thus cutting your workload by half?

Really sad to know you are giving up your plot.Any chance a half plot may be better?

Ah that is sad - but anyway you will probably have the best tended garden in your area! Onward and upward!

That is sad, but responsible & thoughtful to give it to someone who might manage... but are you sure you have to? I'm going to grow a lot more squash next year on weed membrane as I plan to be very busy. They'll be nearly maintenance free...

One thought, and I don't think I'm the most selfish person for thinking this - giving it back sooner & not bothering to clear the weeds wouldn't be unreasonable in my opinion... I wouldn't expect to get a well cleared plot if I was taking on a new one!

Sounds like a sensible decision- no point carrying on if you're not enjoying it. If I had a garden big enough for veg I'd probably do the same.

What are you going to do that will make you very busy?

Rebuilding my life, having had it shredded by imbeciles very nice and helpful people employed at the taxpayer's expense!!!

Having had to give my plot up once due to my cancer i know how it feels, but its one less thing to worry about and it does become a real worry !!
I agree hand it back now and let the new people get going on it! they will love it weeds and all and it will give them all winter to get it how they want it.

As the others have said it's sad to see you give up the lottie Windy, but it seems you have thought long and hard about this and as you have said  you have your back garden so at least your always on hand to tend to your veggies, and tidying things over winter before you give it back shows what amazing people lotties can be, good for you mate and lets hope the person who takes it on takes as much pride in it.  ;D ;D ;D

I gave my plot up for similar reasons Windy, it broke my heart, but you have to be reasonable about what you can do. Someone will be chuffed to bits to get your plot and the circle goes on!!

Start planning the garden in your mind Windy, looking forward is the way to go. It's a new project and needs planning. (I just love the planning bit- when I wake and can't get back to sleep, I plan ;D) Good luck and looking forward to pics of the work in progress.

Hi Windy, I got my plot back in Nov last year. Did a couple of months work on it, then hubbies work shift changed and I couldn't get there. I gave the plot up in Feb this year and was very, very disappointed. But I know I made the right decision (though Im still consoling myself :-[).

I grow lots in my garden though and I dont have to travel ;D
