Title: Rhubarb pest or disease
Post by: veggie perin on September 10, 2008, 17:24:03
Hi
Anyone had problem with rhubarb, droplets of jelly like liquid on stems, plants not looking too healthy, only young?

The clear jelly is sap which is released after the stems suffer insect damage.
There is not much that will touch rhubarb the rhubarb weevil Lixus Concavus being the most common pest but sometimes adult vine weevils will nibble on the stems too.

I had vine  weevil grubs eating the root once. They were in pots of compost waiting to go into lottie, one did not make it but two did.
