Title: Grass removal, what's best?
Post by: pjb on September 09, 2008, 08:10:21
New allotment last Sept that was seriously over grown (a jungle), so I made some raised beds and dug out the grass (so I thought). The onions I grew in the raised beds have now been harvested and the beds have reverted to pasture  >:(

Would I be best just spraying the lot with Glysophate and when it dies off cover till March or so, I don't mind the digging but I don't want to be in the same position every year.

Any ideas???????

As they are raised beds they should be easy just to ease out and put on the compost heap.  I would use a border fork and just lift them gently and they should just come out pretty easily?!  That is the advantage of the raised bed system as you don't walk on it the soil is not compacted and the weeds can be removed pretty easily including docks and dandelions that come out whole!

Good luck with it and let us know how you go!
